Why is There Something Rather Than Nothing?
Metaphysical Sensations: vertiginous bodies falling on earth as meteorites
The Infinite Void
Dust on a Groundless Ground
This work was a consequence of my obsession with the main metaphysical question: “why is there something rather than nothing?” From the instant we are born, we are thrown in the world – into our existence – involuntarily, without being consulted about the time, the place or any other matter. The metaphysical question about existence merges with the photographic issue about its supposed “real referent”. What came before? What is the ground, the foundation of everything? Furthermore, what is a photograph? To ask about the “nothing” is to consider it something. I transpose this questioning to photography and this is when I see photography as a visual manifestation of metaphysics.
